Meaning, I Love You 2015 |
Binge 2015 |
In Meaning, I Love You, the phrase, "I love you" is said back and forth between various participants and myself. The relationship I had with each participant varied. Some were very close to me and some I had never even met before. We pushed our mouths as close as our comfort would let us and repeated the phrase for as long as we could endure.

In Binge, I recorded myself repeatedly placing bubble gum in my mouth and chewing until it became an unbearably large saliva dripping mass that, in the end, could no longer be contained. The act of binge eating a food not meant for consumption brings humor to an uncomfortable subject, while forcing the viewer to witness something that feels intrusive.

SkySpace Simulacrum 2014
This work was inspired by James Turell's Skyspaces and the false realities of social media. I wanted to create an interactive simulation of a Skyspace, so I made a mini one. The structure is a box made of wood with an open window on top. Inside you can view a projection of glitched cloud formations swirling around, while a single continuous tone fills the box to help the viewer get lost in the projection.
Portrait of Us 2015
The QR code in the center of these mirrors led viewers to a website where they could upload photos taken in front of each mirror. The website then became a collection of photographs recording everyone who had visited and shared their experience with the mirror. Only those with the QR code scan could get to the website.
From My Mouth to Yours 2015
Julia Kristeva defines the grotesque as being abject, making us uncomfortable. It relates to the body in a form that reminds us of our own materiality, and we find it uncomfortable because it reminds us of our own human fragility and the inevitability of our own mortality. Society seeks out perfection because of this. I cast pieces of chocolate using molds of gum that I had chewed. The chocolates were presented in a fancy candy box, to denote value, and offered to each viewer for their own consumption. This invited viewers to consume forms that I once partially consumed, bringing them out of their comfortable space and into mine.
Dear Diary 2015
This piece also plays with the grotesque, as casts of my mouth surround a pile of thin paper tape. On the paper tape is a record of everything I ate for a month, also known as a food diary.
